Acer Aspire 5 a515-46-r3ub – Spec and Review

Aspire 5 is a popular series of laptops from Acer. Acer Aspire 5 a515-46-r3ub, which is a low-end laptop from the Aspire 5 series and gained huge popularity in the market.

In this post, we’ll see the specifications of the laptop and a brief review of it covering the most important features of the laptop.

Processor:

First, let us start the review of the Acer Aspire 5 a515-46-r3ub laptop with the review of its processor.

The Acer Aspire 5 a515-46-r3ub is powered by the AMD Ryzen 3 3350U processor which was launched in the early 2019.

It is a quad core processor. As there is no hyper threading option enabled in the processor, so there are the same number of threads as the core.

It runs on the base clock speed of 2.1 GHz but the frequency of the processor can be boosted to 3.5 Ghz. However, there is no support for overclocking in the processor.

The processor also contains its integrated graphics unit called Radeon Vega 6 graphics that has 6 cores and runs on  the frequency of 1.2 GHz.

Another worth mentioning about this processor is its TDP, which is just 15 watts. This means that the processor consumes very little power when the processor is in idle mode.

Overall, though the AMD Ryzen 3 3350U is a low end processor, still it justifies the price range of the laptop and can be used for all sort of basic computing tasks, like – running Microsoft Office softwares etc.

RAM and secondary memory:

Acer Aspire 5 a515-46-r3ub comes with 4 GB DDR4 RAM. In 2023 though, a 4 GB RAM may not be enough to handle all your tasks. Adding to that, as this laptop runs on Windows 11, which itself consumes much more RAM than Windows 10, you may not experience a super smooth experience while working with too many applications opened in the background or while browsing the web with multiple tabs of the web browser opened at the same time.

But, the story does not end here. This laptop does support RAM extension. This means that you can install a new external RAM in the given empty slot of the laptop to upgrade the primary memory (RAM) capacity of the laptop. You can use a maximum of 24 GB RAM on this laptop.

So, if you wish to enjoy a super smooth experience while multitasking or surfing the web, it’s better to install an additional primary memory in the laptop.

Talking about the secondary storage of the laptop, the laptop has got a 128 GB Solid State drive. We consider that as of now a 128 GB SSD is a bit better than a hard disk of having 2 times more storage space than it. Though it may not be enough if you wish to store lots of files, including high quality videos and movies, still a SSD will give you the speed that you need.

Plus, the SSD is a NVMe SSD. This ensures that the SSD will be faster than traditional SSDs which use SATA connectivity.

We feel that for a laptop that comes in the price range of less than $350, a 128 GB integrated secondary storage device is not that bad. Plus, the NVMe connection of the SSD is a cherry on top of the cake.

But, don’t worry if you ever feel that a 128 GB is not enough for you. There is also a blank hard drive slot where you can connect another hard drive to store all your files. That’s indeed a good work by Acer.

Display:

Now let’s move on to the display of the laptop. The device comes with a 15.6 inch display. It is a full HD display having 82.58% screen-to-body ratio (as claimed by the brand).

As this display is made of an anti-glare panel it makes it easy to view the texts and images of the display under excessive light.

It produces bright and high-quality output of the texts and images and the viewing angle of the display is also good.

Overall, the display provides a good viewing experience and the bright and vibrant display may be one of the reasons why you should consider this laptop.

Operating System:

The Acer Aspire 5 a515-46-r3ub runs on Windows 11 S. Windows 11 S is a slightly modified version of Windows 11.

In fact, Windows 11 S is more secure than the classic version of the OS because it doesn’t allow users to download and install apps other than those available in Microsoft Store.

Windows 11 S is also more easy to use and that’s why if you are new to Windows operating system, you might prefer using Windows 11 S rather than using Windows 11.

Fingerprint sensor:

Another feature of the laptop that has impressed us is the presence of a fingerprint sensor in the device. You can use the fingerprint sensor to safeguard your device and the data in it with an internal feature of Windows 11 called Windows Hello.

Voice Assistant:

As a voice assistant, it has Amazon Alexa. By using Alexa you can use your laptop hand-free.

We would also like to mention the battery life of the laptop being particularly fair. This is one of the best laptops in this price range having wonderful battery life.

Conclusion:

Finally, it can be said that the Acer Aspire 5 a515-46-r3ub is a great laptop considering the price. If you are looking for a budget friendly laptop that does not compromise with build quality, this laptop from the Acer Aspire 5 series may be one of the best choices.
