Human rights organisation Black Sash in KZN says the South African Social Security Agency system remains a huge stumbling block to the effective disbursement of the R350 grant.

Some seven and a half million South Africans receive the grant on a monthly basis.

The grant, which was introduced in May 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic is due to run until March 2023.

But KZN Black Sash’s Evashnee Naidu says many people miss out on payment due to outdated information on the system.

Naidu says the online application system doesn’t allow a beneficiary to update or verify their information.

“Sassa is using outdated information on data basis from th UIF or the Department of Labour from SARS and other government entities which does not reflect the true situation of a beneficiary at that real time and that’s why alot of beneficiaries are been excluded.”
