Unemployed villagers in the Eastern Cape have to each pay R120 for taxi fares to go to town to collect their R350 social relief of distress (SRD) grants from their local Post Office and supermarkets.   
Former general worker Mongi Fada, 33, was retrenched in 2020 due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He applied for the R350 grant but quickly learnt that it was not nearly enough to cover his most basic needs.
