CLEVELAND – The 2022 Cleveland State women’s soccer schedule for the upcoming fall campaign has been released, with the Vikings opening the regular season on August 18 against MAC power Kent State.
CSU, which is playing its sixth season with head coach Dallas Boyer at the helm, will play a 17-game slate, with two exhibition contests at Buffalo (August 6) and home against Duquesne (August 13).
“We are really excited to continue building on the progress this group made together in the Spring season and we believe this non-conference schedule provides that opportunity to take the next steps and hopefully hit our peak as we enter Horizon League play,” Boyer said about the upcoming season. “Opening at Kent State, which has long been one of the most consistent and difficult to play against programs in the region, in addition to being a special local rivalry, really puts a premium on our preseason preparations.”
“The opportunity to host a nationally recognized program and all-time legend in Coach Waldrum, bringing his Pitt team to Krenzler, will mark the first time in program history that CSU will host a Power 5 team,” Boyer added. “Event weekends to celebrate include a celebration of our seniors on Sept. 4 and welcoming home several of our alumni on Sept. 25. Those are also going to be special weekends that we look forward to the CSU Viking community getting out to support!”
Cleveland State will look to get off any offseason rust with two exhibition contests against talented opponents. The Vikings will head to Buffalo for a showdown with the UB Bulls on August 6 at 1 PM ET and follow it with a home contest against Duquesne on August 13, also at 1 PM.
The Vikings then get ready for the regular season with four matches in August, with two on the road and two at home. CSU will host St. Bonaventure (August 21 at 1 PM) and Pittsburgh (August 28 at 1 PM) after opening the year at Kent State (August 18). The month also includes a road trip to St. Joseph’s (PA, August 25).
September is an exciting month for the Vikes with seven contests on the docket, highlighted by hosting Niagara for Senior Day on Sept. 4 at 2 PM and Northern Kentucky to celebrate Alumni Weekend on Sept. 25 at 1 PM.
To go with those matches, Cleveland State also plays additional non-conference games on the road against St. Francis (Sept. 1 at 3:30 PM) and Canisius (Sept. 10 at 1 PM) before ending the month with four straight Horizon League games that include matches at IUPUI on Sept. 15, against Detroit on Sept. 18, at UW-Milwaukee on Sept. 22 and the aforementioned NKU home contest on Sept 25.
October features six games as the Vikings make a push to the Horizon League Tournament. The month starts with a road match against Wright State on Oct. 1 and is followed by clashes against Oakland (Oct. 6), at Green Bay (Oct. 9), vs. Youngstown State (Oct. 16), at Robert Morris (Oct. 22) and closing the regular season at home against Purdue Fort Wayne (Oct. 26).
The 2022 Horizon League Championships are set for Oct. 30 – Nov. 5 and will be hosted by the top seed in the conference after the conclusion of the regular season. The HL Quarterfinals will be on Oct. 30, followed by the Semifinals on Nov. 3 and the Championship on Nov. 5.
The Vikings last made it to the championship match in 2018.
Select home and road contests will be featured nationwide on ESPN+.
Admission is free of charge to all CSU Women’s Soccer contests.
