Eastern’s Easton Elliott and the Mountaineers dropped a home doubleheader on Thursday to Carl Albert State.
Eastern Oklahoma State College used a late rally in the second game to split a pair of home games to Carl Albert State on Thursday with a 9-5 loss and an 11-9 win.
Facing a 9-5 deficit in Game 2, Philip Scott led off the bottom of the eighth with a solo home run, Brett Homer later drew a bases-loaded walk, and Tanner Wiley followed with a grand slam to take the 11-9 lead that became the final.
Wiley finished 1-for-3 with two runs and four RBIs, Easton Elliott was 3-for-4 with three runs, and Brock Carter was 2-for-4 with one run.
Carl Albert struck first with two runs in the first and three more in the second before Reed Webb answered for Eastern with a two-run double to pull within 5-2 through two.
Homer drove in a run on a ground out in the third before Scott scored on a passed ball and Carter drove in a run in the sixth to tie it at five runs apiece.
But Carl Albert got back-to-back jacks from Andrew Wilson and Kinta grad Nathanael Richardson in the bottom of the frame to reclaim the lead.
The Vikings scored two more runs in the top of the eighth before Eastern’s big inning.
In the first game, Carl Albert took an early lead with Will Klek’s RBI single and Adam Richardson driving in a run on a ground out in the first before Dylan Thurber hit a two-run shot in the second for a 4-0 advantage.
The Vikings added two runs in the fourth with Breyden Varner’s RBI single and 11 scoring on a passed ball.
Eastern finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with Davin Gummere’s RBI double, followed by Webb wheeling around for a three-run, inside-the-park home run to pull within 6-4.
Carl Albert answered with a run apiece in the next three innings and Eastern managed just on with Carter’s RBI triple in the seventh.
Gummere went 1-for-2 with one RBI and one run, while Wiley and Scott each went 1-for-3.
Eastern is scheduled to play Saturday at Carl Albert State.
