The Philadelphia Phillies have interest in All-Star lefty Carlos Rodón, Susan Slusser of The San Francisco Chronicle reports.
In his first season with the Giants, Rodón is 9-6 with a 3.00 ERA, 2.29 FIP and 4.2 fWAR. With Zach Eflin being transferred to the 60-day injured list Tuesday, Dave Dombrowski and the Phillies need to add a third starter behind Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler. Rodón would do more than that, giving them a third ace.
The 29-year-old signed a two-year/$44 million deal this past offseason to join the Giants after spending parts of seven seasons with the Chicago White Sox. However, because Rodón has topped 110 innings already this season, he can opt out of the $22.5 million salary he’s due next season and become a free agent this offseason.
Of note is that Derrick Goold of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch hears that the St. Louis Cardinals have also reached out to the Giants about Rodón. The Phillies are currently a game ahead of the Cardinals for the third and final Wild Card spot in the National League.
The trade deadline is at 6 p.m. ET.
