The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) released a list of reasons for why a R350 grant beneficiary’s application may have been declined, on Monday, 5 September.
In August, the income threshold for the R350 grant was raised to R624 – the food poverty line. This was a significant change as it allowed more people to qualify for the social assistance.
“SASSA welcomes this new development, and the agency is hopeful that a greater number of qualifying applicants will now have access to this grant; already at the beginning of August 2022 SASSA had received just under 12 million applications,” said the agency in a statement on 25 August.

However, many applicants are still being declined. The agency released the following list of reasons for why that may be the case.
As previously reported, Rejected clients can lodge an appeal with the Independent Tribunal via the website – https://srd.dsd.gov.za
